Colleges and universities

Every department buys its own systems. Nobody sees the total.

Relay by Pursuit is a technology reseller for colleges and universities. We help you find and compare the companies that have the solutions you need, and show you what comparable institutions paid, so the number you bring forward holds up.

One of these is probably true on your campus.

Most of the people who call us are still at the "this isn't working and I don't know what the options are" phase — which is the right time to talk, not too early.

A renewal increase nobody budgeted

A platform is up for renewal and the increase is larger than anyone budgeted for.

Overlapping systems, no total

Departments have bought overlapping systems and nobody has a view of what the institution pays in total.

No way to tell the vendors apart

You've started looking for vendors and come back with a list of names, and no sense of which ones actually serve institutions your size.

A renewal sets no new price

A renewal you're entitled to exercise produces no new price at all.

The gap

A compliant purchase and a good price are two different things.

Your institutional policy and your state decide what your buying process looks like. Neither decides whether the price is good.

A sealed bid with one bidder produces a file, not information. And replacing a twenty-year-old system often never goes out to bid at all, it arrives as a renewal on a calendar.

An institution can do everything by the book and still pay well above what a comparable one paid the same year. Nothing in the current process would tell you. Relay by Pursuit is here to change that.

What Relay by Pursuit does

What we do before you sign

Verified total-cost pricing benchmarks

What comparable institutions actually paid, from their own public records. Not just the license line, but implementation, support, and the escalators as well.

Independent, cost-to-own product selection

No quota for any one vendor. We look at what's running at institutions your size, and cost each option over the years you'll own it.

Pre-signature terms diligence

Escalation caps, auto-renewal windows, what it costs to get your data back out. We help you while the contract is still negotiable, the only time reading it changes anything.

From the public record

The price isn't a price. It's a position.

Five Michigan cities approved a move to the same municipal ERP in the same year, and every contract sits in their council packets. This is the spread on implementation, across the four whose scope was word-for-word identical.

Implementation fee quoted on identical scope · four cities

As a multiple of that same city's annual software fees.
1× means implementation cost the same as a full year of the software itself.

How it works

From a phone call to a decision.

We're with you the whole way, so what you choose is the best value for the people you serve.

1. Tell us what's in front of you

A quote, a renewal date, or a line in next year's budget.

2. We pull the comparable contracts

Public records from institutions like yours, with the source behind every figure.

3. We cost the options and read the terms

Total cost to own, plus the contract language that matters in year three.

4. The purchase runs through us

We're the reseller on the transaction, on the terms that came out of step three.

Questions we get

What campus staff ask first.

Our policy sets the threshold. Do we have to compete this?

Depends on your institutional policy, your state, and whether this is a new purchase or an option under a contract you already competed. We'll tell you what the record shows, not that you're exposed, to make a sale.

Can you break the quote out so we can see which department carries what?

Yes, it's a normal part of the work. Vendors quote one bundled number; an approval packet needs the parts. We get licenses, implementation, training, support and warranty separated out, which also shows which department is really carrying the cost.

We have an auto-renewal coming up. Does that produce a new price?

Not on its own. A renewal you're entitled to exercise continues the existing terms, including whatever escalator is already in them. If you want a new price, the window is before the notice period closes, which is usually earlier than people expect.

What's going to cost us that isn't in the quote?

Usually integration with the systems other departments already run, migrating historical records, and training past the included hours. Those get priced once you're committed. We ask for them in writing up front and name implementation as the vendor's scope in the agreement.

Can the scope be phased across fiscal years?

Usually. Much of a first quote is capability a department wants eventually rather than needs in year one, and deferred scope isn't accruing escalators. We'll tell you which pieces can wait and price the smaller version.

Can you show us what a comparable institution paid?

Where the institution is public, its contracts are subject to records law, and we attach the source document every time. We don't name an institution in anything we publish without their written sign-off.

Have a quote in hand? Or no idea yet?

Both are a good reason to talk. The first conversation is usually about what's end of life, what the board has asked about, and what's already on an agenda.
